Case Study: Electronic Toll Collection and Gigabit Optical Network for the Implementation of the Toll System – France
In France, an ecological tax has been introduced for all heavy goods vehicles (HGV) traveling on the national highway network of over 1,500 km. The tax is calculated based on data collected via installed GPS devices. In cases of non-compliance with the tax system, an additional mechanism is activated that records vehicle license plates and sends data to the traffic monitoring center for collection enforcement.
To enable efficient transmission of large amounts of data – including images and transactional information from more than 150 toll portals – a high-performance network infrastructure based on Moxa Gigabit managed switches EDS-G509-T and EDS-510A-3GT-T has been implemented. The EDS-G509-T model features five optical ports, allowing reliable data transmission over long distances along the entire highway network.
In addition, within the roadside cabinets are compact remote I/O devices ioLogik E1212-T, which monitor environmental conditions using temperature sensors and unauthorized access detectors, thus ensuring the security and reliability of critical infrastructure.
🎯 Why Moxa?
- Gigabit optical network for mass video and data transmission
- Operating temperature range from -40 to 75 °C – ideal for outdoor applications
- Compact I/O solutions for environmental monitoring
